I invite you to read through my blog and reviews of books which I have personally found helpful and/or interesting in my mental health journey. As an occupational therapist with schizoaffective disorder (bipolar type), I have a unique view of mental illness from the perspectives of a consumer, an advocate and a health professional.
My experience has taken me through depression to mania and back, psychosis and even being told I was faking it. I have published my own book, titled RESILIENT:Surviving My Mental Illness which is available on Amazon. I have been through hospitals, day programs, residential programs, living with family and independently. I aim to share my experience through these reviews to help others to help themselves.
There are three categories of books that I will be reviewing:
1) Self-help books - books that helped me to help myself
2) Personal stories - books that helped me to see I was not alone (specifically focusing on non-traditionally published memoirs)
3) Educational books & papers - books and papers that educated me on my illness
I plan do write Top 5 lists for all three categories and read as many books as I can in a year. I’ll keep track using this blog.
Do you have a book you’d like reviewed? Please contact me at lizgraceauthor@gmail.com.
